The Federal Government says work on the Kaduna–Kano–Jigawa–Katsina–Maradi Railway Project has reached 60 percent completion, with full delivery expected by December 2027.

Resident Engineer from the Federal Ministry of Transportation, Engr. Ali Bukar, disclosed this during an inspection of project sites in Jigawa State by members of the Presidential Media Team led by Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare.

According to Bukar, construction activities have intensified along the Kano–Dutse corridor, with major attention on bridge construction across waterways and difficult terrains.

He explained that foundation works, including piling and bridge substructure, have reached advanced stages, while installation of superstructures is ongoing at several locations.

He added that significant progress has also been recorded on the approximately 104-kilometre Kano–Jigawa section, as well as the Kano–Dutse branch line, with earthworks, track laying, and other structural components progressing steadily.

Bukar noted that the railway project, funded under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Infrastructure Programme, is designed to boost regional connectivity, facilitate trade, and strengthen economic integration between Nigeria and neighbouring Niger Republic.

As part of the Northwest project inspection tour, the Presidential Media Team also visited key infrastructure projects in Kano State and Jigawa, including the Tal-Udu interchange flyover, irrigation facilities linked to Kapin Chiri Dam, and the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Skills Acquisition Centre, alongside agricultural mechanisation projects in the state.
