The senate has urged the Armed Forces of Nigeria to strengthen adherence to rules of engagement and international humanitarian law,
It also urged to ensure adequate training on civilian protection, investigate any allegations of civilian harm during military operations, with a view to ensuring accountability and preventing recurrence;

This is part of a prayer of a motion sponsored by senator Mohammad Tahir Monguno and co-sponsord by senator Muhammad Ali Ndume and senator Kaka Shehu Lawan on the urgent Need to curb attacks on Military formations by Boko Haram Insurgents in Borno state
Presenting the mition this wednesday senator Monguno notes with deep concern the recent attacks on military formations leading to casualties among troops, including Brig. Gen. Oseni Braimoh, Col. Mohammed Isya, Capt. A.M Esmat, Lt. Kelvin Festus and 13 others;
The chief whip of the senate expressed worries that these recurring attacks on Monguno and Benisheikh demonstrate a deliberate attempt by insurgents to undermine military operations and disrupt humanitarian and commercial access routes in Borno state

The senate however call on the Chief of Defence Staff and Service Chiefs to conduct a comprehensive operational and logistical audit of the circumstances surrounding the attacks on military formations in Benisheikh and Monguno, including an assessment of equipment adequacy and rules of engagement, and to address identified gaps;
Similarly the senate also urged the local communities to cooperate with the military by giving them information and intelligence about the nefarious activities of the insurgents thereby strongly condeming the continued Boko Haram attacks on Military formations in Borno communities;
The senate commended the officers and men of Operation Hadin Kai for their gallantry, and urge the Federal Government to prioritize their welfare, adequate equipment, and combat motivation.COV/ Bashir M
