Vice President Kashim Shettima led a high-powered Federal Government delegation to Kebbi State to condole with the people and government over the death of the Speaker and recent bandit killings.

Shettima said they were in the state on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, following the bandit attack in Shanga Local Government Area and the passing of Speaker Muhammad Usman Zuru. He described the Speaker’s death as a great loss to Kebbi State, democracy, and the country, and prayed for Allah to grant him Jannatul Firdausi.

The Vice President also decried the destruction of communities in Shanga LGA, including Gebe, Kalkami, Tungar Rimi, and Awaye, as well as the loss of eleven gallant soldiers. He said the tragedies were a major loss to the state, the nation, and the security establishment.

He stated that President Tinubu had directed him to visit with the Director-General of NEMA, Zubaida Umar, to ensure adequate relief and support measures for displaced communities. The VP assured the GOC 3 Division that the losses would not be in vain and asked him to convey the President’s condolences to families of the fallen heroes.

Shettima commended Governor Nasir Idris for his strides in infrastructure, education, and inclusiveness over the last three years, noting that his administration had given all groups a sense of belonging.

Receiving the delegation, the Emir of Zuru, Muhammad Sanusi Mikailu Sami Gomo III, thanked the Vice President for conveying the President’s message to the state, Zuru Emirate, and the bereaved family. Governor Idris also appreciated President Tinubu for sending the delegation and disclosed that the state had set up a committee with N100 million to resettle displaced persons, while N60 million was given to security agencies to support families of the fallen soldiers.
