The Deputy Governor of Zamfara State, Mani Malam Mummuni, has flagged off the distribution of 20,000 bags of 10kg rice donated by the Aliko Dangote Foundation to vulnerable groups in the state.

The intervention is targeted at orphans, the less privileged, people with disabilities and other vulnerable members of the society.

Speaking during the launch held at the Zakkat and Endowment Board in Gusau, the Deputy Governor expressed appreciation to the foundation for the humanitarian gesture, noting that, it was the third time Zamfara State was benefiting from such support.

He said the state government, under the leadership of Governor Dauda Lawal, remain committed to ensuring that relief materials reach those who needs them most.

The Deputy Governor commended the state distribution committee for working tirelessly to ensure transparency and accountability, and directed local government chairmen to ensure the immediate and proper distribution of the items to enable beneficiaries celebrate the Sallah festivities with ease.

He added that the government has taken responsibility for transporting the rice to all 14 local government areas for onward distribution.

As part of the support, the Deputy Governor also flagged off the distribution of 10 cows to persons with disabilities and inmates to celebrate Sallah like other members of the society.

Mani Malam Mummuni said seven cows were allocated to associations of persons with disabilities, while three were designated for inmates.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Distribution Committee and Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Ahmad Yandi, said the rice would be distributed across all 14 local government areas, including selected mosques, to ensure wider reach among the needy.

Alhaji Yandi explained that, each local government would received 800 bags of the rice and above depending on the number of wards.

He urged council chairmen to ensure prompt and equitable distribution of the items.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the Zakkat Board, Sheikh Umar Bin Kanoma, emphasized the importance of supporting the less privileged, noting that Islam places great importance on feeding the needy.

He called on wealthy individuals to emulate the gesture of the Dangote Foundation and support vulnerable members of society, stressing that such acts attract immense rewards from Almighty Allah.

Sheikh Kanoma also urged government and stakeholders to strengthen the Zakkat Board to enhance its capacity in addressing the needs of the poor and vulnerable.

One of the beneficiaries, Malam Shehu expressed immense appreciation to Dangote Foundation and the state government for the support.
