Governor Umar Namadi has announced that the Jigawa State Government has secured approval from the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) to begin the installation of cargo facilities at Dutse International Airport.

The governor made the disclosure on Sunday during a routine facility inspection and calibration exercise at the airport conducted by a technical team from the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA).

In a statement, Hamisu Mohammed Gumel, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Government House, Dutse, said Governor Namadi, while interacting with the NAMA team, stressed the importance of adhering to global aviation best practices.

“Today is an important day for us in our efforts to ensure that all airport facilities in Jigawa State operate in accordance with best practices,” he said.

He commended the airport management for its proactive commitment to safety, particularly through the calibration process.

Responding to questions from journalists, the governor confirmed that discussions with FAAN had culminated in approval to install cargo facilities, paving the way for the airport’s full transition into a cargo hub.

“We have been in discussions with the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, and they have granted approval for the installation of cargo facilities in preparation for the full launch of cargo operations,” he stated.

Governor Namadi expressed confidence that the state would maintain high operational standards as the airport moves toward enhanced cargo services.

Earlier, the NAMA team leader said the visit was aimed at inspecting navigational aids and ensuring compliance with the standards of the International Civil Aviation Organization.

He added that, after the ground checks, the team would assess equipment performance to certify optimal operations.
