The Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation has called on Nigerians to embrace unity, compassion and peaceful coexistence as Muslims and begin the sacred observances of Lent and Ramadan.

In a message marking the rare coincidence of the two holy seasons commencing at the same time, the Foundation described the moment as a profound symbol of Nigeria’s shared spiritual heritage and a unique opportunity for national reflection.

In a statement signed by its Director General Engr. (Dr.) Abubakar Gambo Umar, the Foundation extended warm greetings to Muslim and Christian faithful across the country, noting that both seasons emphasize sacrifice, self-discipline, repentance, charity and spiritual renewal.

According to the Foundation, the alignment of Lent and Ramadan highlights the deep common ground between the two faiths and offers Nigerians an opportunity to rise above ethnic, religious and political differences in order to strengthen national cohesion.

The organization urged citizens to use the period to demonstrate kindness, support for the vulnerable, forgiveness and reconciliation, while recommitting themselves to the pursuit of a just, peaceful and prosperous society.

It also appealed to religious leaders to use their pulpits and platforms to promote unity, tolerance and peaceful coexistence, cautioning against messages capable of sowing division or discord.

Political leaders were similarly advised to avoid divisive rhetoric and actions that could inflame tensions, and instead champion dialogue, inclusivity and policies that foster national harmony and sustainable development.

“As we journey through these sacred times, may we pray fervently for peace, stability, unity and sustainable development in Nigeria,” the statement read, urging Nigerians to work together across religious and political lines for the good of present and future generations.
