Federal University Dutse FUD has confirmed that the inauguration of its newly appointed Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ahmad Muhammad Gumel, will hold on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, as scheduled.

This was disclosed to journalists in Dutse, the Jigawa State capital, by Barrister Shamsu Ubale Jubrin, counsel to the defendants, the Federal University Governing Council and 22 others.

He spoke in relation to a suit filed by Professor Abdulsalam Balarabe, one of the applicants for the Vice-Chancellor position, who is challenging the selection process and urging the court to restrain the Governing Council and other defendants from conducting the swearing-in and handover ceremony.

Barrister Jibrin said in his submission, he presented overwhelming evidence backed by hard documents before the court that the selection process was seamlessly concluded without breaching any of the required qualifications for the position of the Vice-Chancellor as advertised in the national dailies.

He added that Counsel to Professor Abdulsalam Salam failed to produce evidence before the court to show that due process was not followed in the appointment of the new VC.

He said from the evidence he presented before the court, Professor Gumel met all the requirements for appointment as VC having scored the highest mark and taking the first position at the end of the interview proces and the Governing Council in its wisdom appointed him the 4th substantive Vice-Chancellor of the university.

He said the Court did not grant them their prayers to stop the inauguration but in its wisdom adjourned the case to 23rd of February after the inauguration.

According to him, this is a technical victory to the Governing Council and Professor Gumel.

Barrister Jubrin said, he presented unimpeachable evidence to prove that Prof. Gumel met the eligibility criteria of 15 years working experience in the university during the court sitting on Thursday.

He pointed out that, he has two important motions to present to the court after the resumption of hearing on the 23rd of February, 2026 which are key to the case at hand.
