The Zamfara State Government has reiterated its commitment to continue supporting the Armed Forces and other security agencies in tackling insecurity across the state.

Governor Dauda Lawal gave the assurance during the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day ceremony held at the Trade Fair Centre, Gusau, where he paid tribute to fallen heroes who gave their lives in defence of Nigeria’s unity and territorial integrity.

Represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Malam Abubakar Nakwada, Governor Lawal described the celebration and remembrance day as a solemn occasion dedicated to honouring the courage, sacrifice, and patriotism of officers and men of the Nigerian Army, Navy, Air Force, Police, and other security agencies.

He noted that the occasion was not merely ceremonial but a sacred duty to reflect on the supreme sacrifices of gallant personnel who ensure peace and security across the country.

Governor Lawal acknowledged that Zamfara State has, in recent years, borne a heavy burden of insecurity and Commended security personnel for confronting banditry, terrorism, and other criminal activities with resilience and dedication, often at great personal risk.

He reassured security agencies of the state government’s continued cooperation, pledged sustained collaboration with the Federal Government and relevant stakeholders to strengthen security operations, improve logistics and welfare, and enhance intelligence-driven strategies aimed at safeguarding lives and property.

The governor also extended condolences to the families of fallen heroes, particularly widows, widowers, and children, assuring them that their loved ones did not die in vain.

He added that the state government would continue to support initiatives aimed at improving the welfare and wellbeing of these families.

Governor Lawal called on citizens to draw inspiration from the ideals of unity, selflessness, discipline, and patriotism for which the fallen heroes stood, urging residents to work together across ethnic, religious, and political divides to promote peace and mutual understanding.

He further appealed to the people of the state to support security agencies through cooperation, timely information-sharing, and respect for constituted authority, expressing optimism that Zamfara would overcome its security challenges.

He prayed for the eternal rest of the departed heroes and asked God to continue to bless Zamfara State and the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Some families of fallen heroes, who spoke to journalists, emphasized the need for the government to remember them through improved welfare support to sustain their livelihoods. They lamented that it is never easy whenever they recall their loved ones.

Key highlights of the Armed Forces Remembrance Day included the symbolic laying of wreaths in honour of fallen heroes, a solemn one-minute silence, a traditional gun salute performed by military personnel, prayers for the repose of the departed, and a colourful parade involving personnel of the Nigerian Army, Navy, Air Force, and other security agencies, showcasing discipline and unity.
