Jigawa State Government has announced that the tenure of 27 newly appointed education secretaries will be subject to a one-year performance review, with underperforming officers to be replaced.

The Executive Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Professor Haruna Musa, disclosed this while briefing newsmen on the outcome of the final selection exercise.

He explained that the appointments followed a rigorous, multi-stage process aimed at ensuring competence and professionalism in the basic education sector.

According to him, about 1,156 candidates applied for the positions, out of which 274 were shortlisted, while 159 eventually emerged successful after a computer-based test.

Professor Haruna Musa said that, their appointment is performance based after which they will be reassess after one year and those who underperformed will be replaced.

He pointed out that, the new strategy of appointment of education secretaries is out of the desire of Governor Umar Namadi to bring changes in education sector especially at basic level.

The SUBEB Boss urged the successful applicants to justify the confidence reposed in them by ensuring effective school monitoring and the timely reporting of accurate data to support informed decision-making.
