The Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC) has recovered over ₦40 million from various disputes and transactions.

The commission presented cheques to beneficiaries as part of efforts to demonstrate its effectiveness and encourage the public to seek lawful redress which was held in Kano.

Chairman of the Commission Malam Saidu said the recoveries were made in the course of the commission’s routine reconciliation of disputes between individuals and organisations, in line with the powers conferred on it by Sections 9 and 15 of the PCACC Law of 2008, as amended.

He explained that the commission decided to publicly showcase some of its achievements to assure residents that their complaints could be resolved through legal and institutional channels.

According to him, dispute resolution remains a core daily function of the commission.

Among the recoveries presented were ₦2 million in favour of Karry Consult and Fam Nigeria Limited, ₦1 million recovered for Nuradeen Usman Usman, and ₦17 million on behalf of AbdulHakim and Brothers Enterprise, among others.

The Chairman stressed that all the recoveries were civil in nature, arising mainly from business transactions, and did not involve criminal offences.

He noted that as a commercial hub, Kano naturally records business disagreements, which the commission helps to resolve amicably.

Responding to questions, Malam Saidu disclosed that the commission has also intervened successfully in disputes involving private schools, recovering substantial sums owed by parents who defaulted on school fees before attempting to transfer their children to other schools.
