House of Representatives is undertaking a holistic approach to reform the nation’s power sector for effective electricity supply and socio-economic growth.

Speaker of the House Dr Abbas Tajuddeen, announced this while inaugurating an Ad-hoc Committee set up to investigate expenditures in the power sector from 2007 to 2024.

Represented by Mr Mike Ataba, the Speaker, explained that establishment of the committee was part of the 10th house legislative agenda to effectively monitor the affairs of Ministries, Departments and Agencies of government for enhanced service delivery and increase confidence.

Dr Abbas Tajuddeen, who emphasized the importance of electricity to the livelihood and modern civilisation maintained that Nigeria must attain sustainable progress with reliable power supply to factories, schools, hospitals and homes.

Earlier, the Chairman Ad-hoc committee on Power Arc. Ibrahim Mustapha, said Nigeria’s power sector over the last two decade witnessed substantial investment from the Government and private sector to revitalise the energy landscape, unfortunately facing persistent challenges.

Arc Ibrahim Mustapha, confirmed that the complex story on ground forced the house to conduct thorough investigation to asses the implementation of policies, evaluate effectiveness of projects and initiatives undertaking during the period.

The committee chairman who emphasized the significance of the mandate at hand, pledged to collaborate with relevant stakeholders such as government agencies, private sector, civil society organisations and other well meaning Nigerians in carrying out the exercise in the morning interest of transparency and accountability.
