The National Economic Council (NEC) has approved President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s proposal to overhaul and modernize training institutions for security agencies across the country.
The decision, reached at the 152nd NEC meeting held at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, followed a presentation by the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, on strategies for achieving the President’s vision of a trillion-dollar economy.
A committee chaired by Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, was constituted to develop a comprehensive blueprint for the renovation and upgrade of training institutions for the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies within one month.

Members include the governors of Kaduna, Ogun, Taraba, Akwa Ibom, Zamfara, and Nasarawa States, with former Inspector General of Police, Baba Usman, serving as secretary.
President Tinubu emphasized the importance of improving conditions in security training facilities to enhance capacity development and ensure a more professional and motivated security workforce.
Vice President Kashim Shettima, who chaired the meeting, urged state governments to focus on improving the lives of citizens through results-driven governance and proactive planning.

The Council also reviewed a presentation from the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) on the Anticipatory Action Framework for Riverine Flooding, aimed at strengthening early warning systems and disaster preparedness nationwide.
In line with the administration’s economic goals, Senator Bagudu presented a roadmap toward achieving a $1 trillion economy by 2033, anchored on macroeconomic stability, job creation, food security, and competitiveness across subnational governments.
NEC also commended the Katsina Sustainable Platform for Agriculture (KASPA) — a digital model for agricultural governance — and urged states to adopt similar technology-driven solutions to boost productivity and farmer inclusion.

The Council directed the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security to include the establishment of agricultural data and control centres in each geopolitical zone in the 2026 budget.
The NEC Ad-Hoc Committee on Crude Oil Theft, chaired by Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, reported progress in coordinating efforts to curb oil theft through engagement with key industry stakeholders, regulators, and operators.

The Council encouraged the committee to intensify its work to raise national crude production beyond 1.72 million barrels per day and to extend its oversight to illegal mining and mineral theft.
Nigeria is projected to reach a production capacity of 2.5 million barrels per day by the end of 2025
