Sultan of Sokoto Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has declared Thursday the 23rd of October 2025 as the first day of Jumada Awwal 1447AH , Islamic calendar.
This was made known in a statement signed by the chairman Advisory Committee on religious Affairs, Sultanate Council Sokoto Prof. Sambo Wali Junaidu.
He explained that the Committee together with the National Moon sighting Committee across the country, did not receive any information confirming the sighting of the new crescent of Jumada Awwal on Tuesday the 21st of October 2025 which is the 29th of Rabiul Assani 1447AH,
noting that Wednesday shall be the thirtieth of Rabiul Thaani marking the end of the Islamic Month 1447AH, and Thursday shall be the 1st of Jumada Awwal accordingly.
The statement cited that the Monthly Observation of the moon clarifies the Islamic Calendar within a given year, thereby making the month of Ramadan moon sightings more acceptable to the general Muslims in the Country.
