President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called for the establishment of community-based security committees across Nigeria to strengthen peace, stability, and cooperation among citizens.
He made the call in Birnin Kebbi during the Northern Traditional Rulers Council (NTRC) General Assembly, held at the Presidential Banquet Hall in Kebbi State’s capital.
Represented by his Chief of Staff, Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila, the President said the committees would promote dialogue, conflict resolution, and security collaboration among communities, traditional leaders, and security agencies.
With the theme “Strengthening Community Collaboration for Lasting Peace in Northern Nigeria,” President Tinubu explained that the initiative would also foster interfaith dialogue, build trust among religious groups, and reduce communal tensions.

He further stressed the importance of empowering women and youth through education, economic opportunities, and leadership development to help prevent violent extremism, adding that inclusive community participation is vital for sustaining peace and stability.
Earlier, the Sultan of Sokoto and Chairman of the Northern Traditional Rulers Council, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, commended the Nigerian Armed Forces for their sacrifices in maintaining peace and unity.
He urged citizens to support security agencies and avoid making demoralizing comments on social media, noting that insecurity remains a global challenge.
In his remarks, Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris (Kauran Gwandu), praised the NTRC for hosting the event in Kebbi, describing the theme as timely and relevant.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting traditional institutions as key partners in fostering peace and unity across the state.
