President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Ambassador Joy Uche Angela Ogwu, a former Minister of Foreign Affairs and Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations. She died at the age of 79.

In a statement issued by Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, the President described Ambassador Ogwu’s death as a great loss to Nigeria’s diplomatic community. “Ambassador Joy Ogwu projected Nigeria’s voice with clarity and purpose on the global stage. She was a trailblazer who rose to the highest level of her vocation through excellence and hard work,” Onanuga stated.

Ambassador Ogwu represented Nigeria at the United Nations from 2008 to 2017 and also served as the Director-General of the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA), where she made remarkable contributions to Nigeria’s foreign policy and international relations.

President Tinubu extended his condolences to her family, friends, and colleagues in the diplomatic and academic community and prayed for the repose of her soul.
