The Kano State Hisbah Board has announced that preparations are at an advanced stage for the mass wedding of 2,000 couples across the state.

The Deputy Commander General of the Board, Sheikh Mujahid Aminudeen Abubakar, disclosed this while speaking to journalists in Kano.

According to him, the Mass Wedding Committee has submitted a comprehensive proposal to the state government, which has since been approved.

Sheikh Mujahid explained that the initiative targets couples who have undergone courtship but lack the financial means to formalize their marriages.

He stated that participants would undergo mandatory genotype, HIV, and hepatitis B screening, as well as other necessary health checks, in addition to meeting moral and behavioral standards.

The Deputy Commander General further revealed that 2,000 women and 2,000 men will benefit from the program, which includes the provision of dowries, furniture, food items, clothing materials, and startup capital, among other support items.

He noted that the program specifically targets female orphans, vulnerable individuals, and couples whose weddings were postponed due to financial constraints.

Sheikh Mujahid added that all participants will undergo counseling, screening, and other preparatory procedures established by the committee, stressing that slots will be distributed across all 44 local government areas of the state.

He, however, cautioned married individuals and unqualified persons against attempting to collect application forms, warning that the Board will not tolerate any form of dishonesty or manipulation in the selection process.
