The First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu has called on parents to do more towards instilling moral values on their children.
She made the call at the opening ceremony of this year’s Exercise ‘Haske Biyu’ organised by the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, held at the Jaji Military Cantonment in Kaduna State.
Senator Oluremi Tinubu noted that many parents, while striving to make ends meet, abandon their parental responsibility, thereby leaving their children to raise themselves.
The first lady, who was represented by wife of the Vice President, Hajiya Nana Kashim Shettima, pointed out that parental absence creates a void which often gets filled by negative influences including bad companies, cultism, exposure to drugs, prostitution, get rich quick syndrome and extremist ideologies.
Senator Oluremi Tinubu described the family as bedrock of the society, where the core values of love, duty, respect and sacrifices are learned.
She urged religious, traditional and community leaders to continue to teach children the right principles of faith, and re-inforce positive family values.
Earlier in his welcome address, Commandant of the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Air Vice Marshal Hassan Alhaji explained that this year’s exercise has been expanded to include a whole of nation approach, bringing together security agencies, government officials and critical stakeholders to address pressing security challenges.
He emphasized that family stability was critical in ensuring national security.
Air Vice Marshal Hassan Alhaji noted that solving security and economic misalignments were key to achieving a trillion dollar economy, as envisioned by President Bola Tinubu.
