Kaduna State Government has issued a weather advisory following forecasts from the Nigerian Meteorological Agency and the Nigerian Hydrological Services Agency which predict thunderstorms and heavy rainfall across the state between yesterday Wednesdays and next week Monday.

In a statement conveyed through the Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency, the Government warned of potential flash floods, waterlogging in urban areas, rising river levels, and risks to property, agriculture, and infrastructure.

The Commissioner for Information, Malam Ahmed Maiyaki, said all relevant agencies have been placed on high alert to safeguard lives and property.

He said the Kaduna State Government is fully prepared to respond swiftly to any emergencies that may arise from the predicted weather conditions, adding that KADSEMA has been directed to work closely with stakeholders to ensure maximum readiness.

” Citizens are strongly advised to comply with safety instructions, clear their drainage systems, and avoid flood-prone areas during this period”.

Also speaking, the Executive Secretary of KADSEMA, Dr. Usman Hayatu Mazadu, emphasized vigilance and strict adherence to precautionary measures. He noted that forecasts indicate repeated thunderstorms and heavy rainfall, particularly on Wednesday and Thursday, urging the public to avoid unnecessary movement during heavy downpours, refrain from driving through flooded roads, and keep children away from floodwaters.

“Farmers should also take urgent steps to secure their crops and storage facilities”.

Dr. Mazadu assured residents that emergency response agencies remain on standby to provide immediate assistance, noting that rapid response teams have been activated.

He encouraged citizens to promptly report any life-threatening flood incidents or emergencies using KADSEMA’s official emergency contact lines.

The Government urged residents to remain calm but vigilant and called for community cooperation in mitigating risks associated with the expected weather conditions.
