The Federal Government has developed the blueprint of the National Value Charter and Re- orientation campaign that will promote honesty, patriotism, integrity and civic responsibility across all spares of national life.
Minister Of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris stated this at the opening of the twentieth Northern Zonal Accountants Minna 2025 conference, organised by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria ICAN.
Represented by the Director General Voice Of Nigeria, Malam Jibrin Baba Ndace, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, explained that the campaign which will be launched by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu soon, is design to compliment the fight against corruption, by addressing not just systems and processes but the attitude and behaviours that undermine accountability.
Mohammed Idris explained that Accountability is the cornerstone of every thriving society, in which without it public trust erode, institutions weaken and development falters, National Re- orientation on the other hand speaks to the values, ethics and collective mind set that bind us as people do that together they provide the moral and institutional compass needed to unlock Nigeria’s vast human and material potentials.
He however maintained that this year’s theme “Socio Economic Potentials Accountability and National Re- orientation: unlocking Nigeria’s future”is not only timely but also deeply aligned with National Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration of transforming Nigeria.
Mohammed Idris further said as Minister of Information and National Orientation, his mandate is rooted in shaping public values, building trust in governance and mobilizing citizens towards shared national goals.
He said the Federal Government has undertaken reforms that speak directly to this theme, such as the students loan scheme that is making higher education accessible to all, the Lagos-Calabar coastal Highway, Badagry-Sokoto Highway, rehabilitation of Eastern rail corridor and the President Tinubu swift approval of over sixteen points seven billion naira for the construction of Mokwa bridge in Niger state among others.
Declaring the conference opened, Niger state Governor Mohammed Umar Bago assured members of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, that out of the over three hundred million naira it intend to realize for the construction of its Zonal office and and training centre in Minna, Niger state Government will provide one hundred and fifty million naira that is fifty percent of the amount needed to execute such project.
In his goodwill message, Zamfara state Governor, Dauda Lawal who was represented by the state Commissioner of Finance, Mohammed Bello Auta announced a donation of five million naira to the conference.
The President Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, DR Haruna Yahaya explained that the centre when completed hopely in December this year, will be named after Niger state Governor, as Umar Bago ICAN Centre.
Among the erudite scholars that presented papers at the opening of the three day ICAN conference is the former Vice Chancellor, Kaduna state University, Prof Tanko Mohammed while representative of the Corp Marshal and Chief Executive Federal Road Safety Corp, Shehu Mohammed has delivered his goodwill message at the occasion.
