Babura Youth Development Initiative in Jigawa State has launched its 2025 tree planting campaign.

Speaking at the flag-off ceremony, the Chairman of the group, Alhaji Mustapha Umar Babura explained that, this was the first project carried out by the group since its establishment in the area.

According to him, they chose tree planting as their first activity in order to contribute towards tackling the challenges of deforestation and the scarcity of trees.

Mustapha Umar called on community members to join hands for the success of nurturing the seedlings as well as other future projects of the group.

He pointed out that, they provided 500 seedlings, out of which 300 are economic trees that will be distributed free to residents, while 200 have been planted along the roadside at Kofar Yamma area within Babura town.

In a goodwill message delivered on behalf of the Babura Local Government chairman, the councilor representing Babura ward, Lawan Abdullahi, commended the effort of the group.

He noted that the local government is also undertaking a tree planting program which deployed guards to protect the seedlings.

He further called for collaboration among community based organizations, leaders, and stakeholders to tackle the problem of indiscriminate felling of trees.

Radio Nigeria reports thar, Imam Hassan Musa delivered a lecture on the significance of tree planting in Islam, while Dr. Sani Isyaku of the Federal University Dutse spoke on the importance of trees to human life.
