Kwara State Government says it has concluded plans to deploy biogas machines for livestock traders to convert animal waste into clean, renewable energy across the State.

The General Manager of the State Environmental Protection Agency (KWEPA), Jide Aina, stated this during a preparatory inspection along side the L-PRESS Project Coordinator, Mr. Olusoji Oyawoye to major livestock markets in Ilorin.

According to him,  the initiative implemented under the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (L-PRESS) project, is aimed at improving sanitation and public health.

He emphasized that the deployment of biogas machines would serve as both a waste management solution and a clean energy source, marking a significant step toward greener, healthier market environments.

Aina described the initiative as a dual-benefit approach that addresses both environmental and economic challenges.

“This initiative is a win-win for traders and the entire State. It will lead to a cleaner environment, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and provide alternative energy sources, while enhancing productivity in the livestock sector,” he said.

For his part , the state Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support ,(PRESS) Project Coordinator, Mr. Olusoji Oyawoye represented by Hajiya Aminat Jidah reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to promoting sustainable agricultural practices.

He assured the traders of continuous stakeholder engagement to ensure smooth execution and long-term impact of the project.

Oyawoye maintained that the project aligns with the State government’s broader agenda to modernize agriculture and protect the environment.
