Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kano State Strategic Command, have intercepted 8,000 bottles of Akuskura, a herbal mixture suspected to contain illicit drugs, alongside 48 blocks of Cannabis sativa.

According to the Public Relations Officer NDLEA Kano strategic command, Sadik Muhammad Maigatari, a 37-year-old suspect, Ali Muhammad, was arrested in connection with the seizure.

He pointed out that the interception occurred at Gadar Tamburawa, along the Zaria – Kano Road, when officers stopped a trailer transporting goods from Lagos en route to Maiduguri.

Sadik explained that the vehicle, which was fully loaded with tricycles (Keke Napep), had the exhibits concealed between the units and underneath the trailer, where a specially constructed wooden compartment was used to hide the substances.

“NDLEA officials uncovered the hidden consignment through painstaking search and intelligence-led operations”

The public relations officer however stressed that the suspect and seized items are now in custody.

“Pending further investigation and laboratory analysis to confirm the composition of the substances and establish the extent of the criminal network”.

He hinted that the Commander of the Kano State Strategic Command, A. I. Ahmad, commended the diligence of his operatives and acknowledged the steadfast support of the NDLEA Chairman Brigadier General Mohammed Buba Marwa.

The agency urged members of the public to remain alert and report any suspicious consignments or activities to the nearest NDLEA office or other law enforcement agency.
