In a landmark achievement, Bayero University, Kano (BUK) has successfully resolved its decades-long land dispute with the Danzakara community, bringing an end to years of tension and paving the way for stronger ties with its neighbors.
The breakthrough, which comes just days before the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas, completes his five-year tenure, was facilitated by the intervention of Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf.
Speaking in his office while receiving the Kano State Council of Ulama led by its Chairman, Sheikh Ibrahim Khalil, Prof. Abbas described the resolution as a “significant milestone” in the university’s history.
He noted that the state’s Ministry of Land had already demarcated the boundaries, and the affected communities had agreed to relocate, a move that would finally allow the university to fence its entire perimeter.
He said another CofO would be presented to the University soon.
“I have already sourced funding for the fencing project, and work will commence soon. This resolution not only secures the university’s land but also strengthens our relationship with the surrounding communities,” Prof. Abbas said.
He commended the Federal Government for supporting the fencing project and praised Governor Yusuf’s role in achieving a lasting solution.
Speaking on security concerns, Prof. Abbas expressed deep worry over the persistent menace of Yandaba gang activities in Kano involving phone snatching and robbery , urging the Ulama and other stakeholders to intensify efforts to curb the growing threat.
Earlier, Sheikh Ibrahim Khalil said the Council visited to congratulate Prof. Abbas as he approached the end of a productive tenure marked by visible growth and national recognition for BUK.
Similarly, Professor Rabiu Sa’ad of the Department of Arabic hailed the Vice-Chancellor’s role in ending the Danzakara land dispute, describing it as a testament to his leadership and conflict-resolution skills.
With this resolution, BUK now looks ahead to securing its boundaries and fostering lasting peace with its host communities , a legacy that will stand as one of Prof. Abbas’s defining achievements.
