Former Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency NIMASA, Dr. Bashir Yusuf Jamoh, says he has offered himself for national service by declaring his intention to contest for the Kaduna North Senatorial Seat in the 2027 general elections.

Dr. Jamoh made the declaration on Friday at the sidelines of the Honorary Moot Court Appearance and Debate Competition organized by Precision Chambers, Faculty of Law, Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria.

He said that he was a gubernatorial aspirant in Kaduna state at the 2023 general elections adding that he was then advised to step down for someone who was earlier tipped for the job and he obliged.

“A number of people from my constituency came to me again and requested that since the governor is in his position, I should contest for a position not occupied by him (Senator) in the 2027 elections.

“However, I wrote a letter to key stakeholders in the zone over the request for me to vie for an election position.

“My position remains that I accepted to offer myself to the service of the nation once more, but I am currently in consultations with key stakeholders,’’ Jamoh said.

However, the former NIMASA Boss commended the students for the special moot court and debate session in his honor stressing that the event rekindles a hope on the youths.

He added that he was intrigued by the topic of the debate competition which is “should the House of Representatives be scrapped in favour of a Unicameral Legislature in Nigeria?”

He said the submissions made during the debate would be of national importance, impacting on Nigeria’s socio-political structure at the Federal level.

Earlier Justice Is’haq Bello, former Chief Judge, High Court of the Federal Capital Territory and chairman of the occasion said his presence was on mentoring for the aspiring lawyers.

Bello said the event today was exceptional because it was dedicated to honour Dr. Bashir Jamoh whom he described as a person of reputation and high credibility.

He commended the former NIMASA Boss on his philanthropic interventions and urged others to emulate what he did from skills accusation training and sponsorship to formal education.

The former Chief Judge also encourages the students to recommit to learning, shun drugs abuse and other vises.
