The AGILE Project in Zamfara State has supported the distribution of seedlings to ECO Clubs in selected schools, as part of efforts to promote grassroots tree-planting initiatives and encourage environmental stewardship across the state.

Speaking during the event, Deputy Coordinator of the AGILE Project in Zamfara, Dr. Salisu Dalhatu, said the initiative aligns with AGILE’s broader vision of empowering girls through education.

He led other project team members in commemorating this year’s World Environment Day alongside adolescent schoolgirls from AGILE-supported schools.

Dr. Dalhatu emphasized that, the event highlighted the vital role of students in environmental preservation, promoting ecological awareness and sustainable practices within schools.

He noted that, creating safe, clean, and inclusive learning environments is critical for the development and well-being of adolescent girls.

The event featured an awareness session and a rally, organized in collaboration with key stakeholders, including the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MOEST); the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, NGOs; CSOs; school principals; students; security agencies; and members of the media.

The Zamfara State Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources led the event, with support from a representative of the Commissioner for MOEST, the Deputy Project Coordinator of AGILE, and other dignitaries.

“Although World Environment Day is globally marked on June 5, the AGILE Project in Zamfara celebrated the to today avoid a clash with this year’s Eid al-Kabir festivities”
