The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Special Duties, Mr. Tunde Rahman, has described the recent wave of endorsements for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu from within the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a strong testament to the administration’s bold policy decisions and performance in the last two years.

Speaking to Radio Nigeria in Abuja, Mr. Rahman noted that the endorsements particularly from APC governors, members of the National Assembly, and the party leadership reflect the growing confidence in the President’s economic reforms, including the removal of fuel subsidy and unification of the exchange rate.

“These endorsements are significant. They are a vote of confidence in the President’s courage and boldness, especially in taking tough decisions at the beginning of his tenure, such as the removal of the fuel subsidy on May 29, 2023,” he said.

According to Mr. Rahman, the impact of these reforms is beginning to yield results with improvements in the economy, moderation of the naira against foreign currencies, and a slight reduction in food prices.

He emphasized that the party leadership and members have seen “the goodness” in these policies and are rallying behind the President.

Asked whether it is too early for such endorsements, with the next general elections still nearly two years away, Mr. Rahman said political realignment is not new in Nigerian politics and noted that opposition parties themselves have already begun early strategizing.

“It is not too early. The APC is only responding to political developments. Besides, what we are seeing is a form of midterm assessment,” he said.

Mr. Rahman also cited recent defections to the APC including that of the Delta State Governor and members of his cabinet as further evidence of growing support for President Tinubu’s leadership.

He concluded by saying that more endorsements and defections should be expected in the coming months as the administration continues to demonstrate progress and stability.
