Jigawa State Governor, Malam Umar Namadi, has embarked on a high-level two-week agricultural trade and investment mission to India aimed at transforming the state’s agriculture through modern technologies and international collaboration.

The governor is accompanied by top government officials and agricultural experts including the Commissioner for Agriculture, the Technical Advisor on Agriculture, and the heads of the Jigawa Research Institute and Farmers and Herdsmen Management Board.

While in India, the delegation will visit top agricultural institutions in Gujarat, Telangana, and Andhra Pradesh, focusing on dairy value chain modernization, livestock development, agri-tech innovations, and seed technology.

Key engagements include meetings with Amul Dairy Cooperative and the National Dairy Development Board to learn about cold chain logistics and cooperative models, as well as visits to advanced hatcheries and research centers to study breeding and feed systems.

The team is also exploring partnerships with firms like Nuziveedu Seeds for seed development and mechanized farming.

Other areas of interest include aquaculture and integrated poultry farming with an emphasis on models that benefit smallholder farmers.

The mission is expected to yield technical cooperation agreements, pilot agricultural projects, capacity-building initiatives, and potential investment from Indian agribusinesses.

Governor Namadi emphasized that the mission aims to boost productivity, enhance food security, and create job opportunities, stating, “This visit marks a decisive step toward repositioning Jigawa as a leader in agricultural innovation and rural transformation.”

The initiative aligns with Jigawa’s broader vision of achieving sustainable economic growth through agriculture.
