The National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has revealed that Kano State has the second-highest number of drug abuse cases in the country.
This assertion was made by the Agency’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Brigadier General Muhammad Buba Marwa, during the commissioning of a new accommodation and rehabilitation center for the agency’s personnel in Kano.
Marwa expressed concern about the prevalence of drug abuse in the state, noting that many people, including those from various walks of life, are involved in the menace.
He emphasized the need for concerted efforts to tackle the problem.
Marwa noted that the newly commissioned facility is designed to enhance the welfare of NDLEA personnel and improve their operational efficiency.
He described the facility as a testament to the agency’s commitment to achieving its objectives.
The NDLEA Chairman commended the agency’s zonal commanders for their efforts in fighting drug abuse and urged parents and caregivers to intensify their efforts in curtailing the menace.
He advised parents to purchase drug test gadgets, which are available at NDLEA state commands, to monitor their children’s activities.
Marwa revealed that the agency is working towards establishing rehabilitation centers in all states across the federation.
He emphasized the importance of a multi-stakeholder approach in addressing the drug abuse scourge.
“We appreciate the interventions received from the presidency, and we urge you to be more committed to achieving the stated goals,” Marwa said.
“I advise parents to buy drug test gadgets we sell at all our state commands, so that whenever you are suspicious of your child, you can test and verify whether your child is engaged in drug abuse,” he added.
The ceremony was graced by senior officials of the agency and other stakeholders.
