Federal Government has been advised to respect the tenure of public officials to prevent unnecessary stagnation.

Kaduna-based legal practitioner, Mr. El-Zubair Abubakar, who gave the advice in an interview, expressed dismay over the extension of tenure for some public officials, including the Inspector-General of Police, judges, and the Comptroller of Immigration Service.

Mr. El-Zubair Abubakar noted that such extension described as unconstitutional would demoralize subordinates expected to be promoted to such positions.

He stressed the need for adherence to the rule of law rather than politicize public service at the expense of merit which should be discouraged in the interest of the Country.

The Legal Practitioner suggested proper motivation of workers to promote productivity to justify huge expenditure in personnel management.
