The Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria CAN of the nineteen northern states Reverend John Joseph Hayab has warned against religious intolerance, calling on all faith actors to unite and fight the ugly trend among followers.

Rev. John Joseph Hayab while addressing members of Christian Journalists Forum on a congratulatory visit over his emergence as the Chairman , condemned some mischief makers who are trying hard to create discord within religious circles.

The clergy who was particularly speaking on religious rights and freedom emphasized the need for Christians, Muslims, Hindus, traditional worshipers and all other religious adherence to exercise their faiths without hindrance.

He noted that religion freedom is a fundamental aspect of the Nigerian constitution, and unity among faith leaders is essential in resisting any form of oppression or discrimination.

The CAN northern states Chairman therefore called on government to arrest any persons or groups that are violating the laws against religious rights and those promoting derogatory statements against freedom of worship.

According to Reverend Ma’aji , Hayab’s predecessor left behind significant gaps that need to be addressed, emphasizing that the new chairman will require the full support of stakeholders to succeed.

In his congratulatory message, President of Christian Media Forum Comrade Jacob Dickson, commended Hayab’s fearless leadership and commitment to upholding christian values.

“Hayab, speaks truth to power. With him at the helm of affairs at this level, we anticipate significant transformation in Christendom. We look forward to working closely with CAN, particularly in capacity-building for Christian media professionals,”

He recalled the support given to media professionals by Reverend Hayab when unjustly arrested or charged by security agents.
