North-West Governor’s Forum has called on their counterparts across the country to take responsibility for protecting lives and property of residents irrespective of religion, tribe or regional differences.
Chairman of the forum and Katsina State Governor, Alhaji Aminu Bello Masari stated this during a town hall meeting convened by the office of the National Security Adviser, in Kaduna.
According to him, the meeting involved National Security Adviser, new service chiefs, security heads and governors of the northwest zone to discuss issues of Security and how best to confront the problem.
Alhaji Bello Masari said governors of the northwest were making concerted efforts towards addressing security challenges affecting the region, hence the need for total support and cooperation of stakeholders to achieve the desired objective.
He further reassured commitment of the governors in fulfilling their mandate of protecting lives and property of citizens.
Similarly, chairman of the Northern Governors Forum Mr Simong Bako Lalong who welcomed the new service chiefs prayed for an end to the security threats in the country.
Also speaking, Governor Nasiru Elrufa’i of Kaduna State assured people of the region that security was one of their top priority.
He said with the commitment of the Federal Government and the new service chiefs the issue of insecurity would be addressed.
In a speech, the National Security Adviser, Major General Babagana Mangano retired, said Federal Government was redoubling its commitment towards securing the lives and property of Nigerians.
He explained that the three tiers of government would be working together with the wider society, defence and security agencies to deal with the issue.
According to Babagana Mangano, President Muhammadu Buhari is deeply saddened about the unwanted loss of innocent lives in the country, and is committed to bringing the situation to an end.
He also disclosed that with the new service chiefs, new directions in confronting challenges in the country would be feasible and therefore, appealed for patience and understanding of Nigerians.
The Chief of Defence Staff, Major General Lucky Irabor in a remark stated that a new strategy is in the pipeline to address the tide of security challenges across the country.
He added that the defence intelligence and other security heads were working with state Governors on ways to restore peace in the country.
Earlier, the Emir of Zazzau, Alhaji Ahmad Nuhu Bamali noted that it is high time for every Nigerian to contribute meaningfully toward ensuring lasting peace in the country.
The event had in attendance religious and traditional leaders as well as women and youth groups.
