Participants at the workshop

Community driven initiatives involving state and non-state actors has offered effective approach to securing sustainable peace and security in local communities.

The Vice Chairman, Kaduna State Peace Commission, Mrs Priscilla Ankut, stated this at a Training Workshop For Members of Atyap Peace and Security Partnership Organized by the Commission in Kaduna.

She said the Commission in collaboration with a Non-governmental organization, Mercy Corps had designed and organised capacity building programmes on early warning and response, mediation and inter-religious dialogue for state-level religious actors.

Mrs. Priscilla Ankit maitained that the same peace building was being stepped down at local government and ward levels using Christian Association of Nigeria and Jama’atul Nasril Islam.

She explained that the training was organised to complement such efforts and to build the capacity of relevant stakeholders on how to contribute their quota more creatively and vigorously in peace building processes.

Mallam Sani Suleiman Deputy Chief Mercy Corps

In an opening address, Deputy Chief of Mercy Corps, Mallam Sani Suleiman, urged various communities to take ownership of peace Building efforts for progress and development.

He also emphasized that the training was to provide skills on understanding, analyzing, to participants for early warning and early response.
