A Non-Governmental Organization NGO, Grassroots Mobilizers for Better Nigeria Initiative GMBNI, has condemned the gruesome killing of an Almajiri student in Gwaram Local Government Area, Jigawa State.

The organization expressed deep sorrow and outrage over the inhumane treatment meted out to the child, leading to his tragic and untimely death.

According to the  North-West Zonal Coordinator of GMBNI, Abbas Rufa’i Wangara, reports indicate that an Imam of an Almajiri school severely flogged the student to death.

The situation took an even darker turn when the Imam allegedly decapitated the child, removed his private parts, and buried the remains in a shallow grave.

GMBNI described this act as a gross violation of human rights and a serious affront to societal values.

The organization extended condolences to the victim’s family, stressing that no child should suffer such barbaric treatment, especially in a place meant for learning and moral development.

The group emphasized the urgent need for systemic reforms in the Almajiri education system, which has long been plagued by neglect, abuse, and lack of oversight.

It called on authorities at all levels to take immediate action to protect Almajiri children and ensure they receive dignified and quality education.

GMBNI urged law enforcement agencies and the judiciary to conduct a thorough and transparent investigation into the case and ensure that the perpetrator is swiftly brought to justice.

The President of GMBNI, Ambassador (Dr.) Fatima Mohammed Goni, reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to advocating for the rights of vulnerable children.

She called on civil society, Nigerians, and the international community to join in demanding justice for the victim and working toward a safer and more inclusive Nigeria for all children.
