Kaduna State Government has announced plans to rehabilitate and expand dams across the state.
The State Commissioner of Agriculture, Alhaji Murtala Dabo, revealed this during an inspection of dams at the Galma Irrigation Division in Zaria.
Alhaji Murtala Dabo explained that the current administration was committed to rehabilitating all dams to enhance the socioeconomic development of the state and its residents.
He added that governor Uba Sani encouraged farmers not depend on raining season farming rather adopt dry season farming to boost harvest.
Alhaji Murtala Dabo said the state government had budgeted about twelve percent from this year’s budget on agriculture to meet food security programs standard.
The Commissioner assured Farmers that the state would soon commence distribution of farm implement to motivate farmers .
ALHAJI Murtala Dabo expressed satisfaction with the level of commitment and loyalty of the farmers Association and other relevant stockholders in supporting food security programs.
In an interview, the Chairman of the Galma Irrigation Co-operative Association Shehu Lawal Dalhatu stressed the need for state government to provide needed support to boost irrigation farming across the state.
He called on the government to distribute farm implement to real farmers to achieved desired objectives.
One of the farmers commended the commissioner for showing concern to farmers especially irrigation farmers.
