National Population Commission has registered and issued birth certificates to over ten million children across the country.

The Commission’s Chairman, Alhaji Nasir Isa Kwara, made this announcement while speaking to journalists after First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu presented a birth certificate to the Baby of the year at Asokoro General Hospital in Abuja.

He was represented by the Federal Commissioner from Katsina, Bala Banya, who emphasized that the Commission is committed to ensuring that every child born in Nigeria is registered and receives a birth certificate.

Kwara highlighted the digitization of the registration system and the collaboration with the Primary Health Care Agency, stating that children will be registered regardless of where they are born.

He urged all parents and guardians to register their children since this service is free of charge.

The Director General of the Commission, Dr. Telson Osifo Ojogun, mentioned that plans are in place to establish over four thousand registration centers nationwide to make registration more accessible to families.

Dr. Ojogun also noted that the Commission is utilizing available technology to ensure that every registered child has a unique identity that cannot be duplicated.

He expressed gratitude to the First Lady, represented by the wife of the Vice President, Hajiya Nana Shetima, for presenting the certificate to the Baby of the Year.

Additionally, Dr. Ojogun encouraged Nigerians to register deaths with the Commission to help maintain an accurate population record.
