Jigawa State Executive Council has approved the release of over ₦1.5 billion to the State and Local Governments Contributory Pension Scheme for the payment of outstanding benefits to retired civil servants in the state.

The State Commissioner of Information, Youth, Sports, and Culture, Alhaji Sagir Musa Ahmed, disclosed this to newsmen after a meeting chaired by Governor Umar Namadi at the Government House, Dutse.

He further stated that the council approved an additional ₦413 million for the procurement of four Toyota Hilux vehicles and fifty Boxer motorcycles to enhance patrol operations as part of efforts to curb criminal activities across the state.

He said the council also approved ₦1 billion for the State Ministry of Budget to procure operational vehicles, as well as another ₦1 billion for the State Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy to purchase additional shares from the Kano Electricity Distribution Company, in line with the memorandum of understanding signed between the firm and the state government.

Other resolutions reached by the council include the approval of ₦595 million for the installation of solar-powered streetlights in local government and urban areas.

Sagir further added that the council resolved to establish a nine-member committee tasked with developing modalities for implementing key recommendations by the state committee on the Majia tanker fire explosion.
