Senate is to partner relevant Organizations working to improve women participation in Agricultural Extension Services for enhanced farming practices, food production and food security.

The Chairman, Senate Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development Sen Salihu Mustapha, made the statement while receiving the executives of Women Farmers Advancement Network WOFAN on a courtesy visit in his office Abuja.

Sen Salihu Mustapha, who was impressed by the activities of WOFAN also received a Draft Bill on how to Revitalise Agricultural Extension Service in Nigeria proposed and presented to him by the body for further legislative consideration and passage.

The Senator who represents Kwara Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly expressed gratitude to WOFAN for their dedication and efforts in drafting the bill said if passed into law the document will enhance knowledge dissemination and productivity among Nigerian farmers.

He emphasized that the proposed Bill apart from advancing the agricultural sector would also support the livelihoods of farmers, particularly women farmers who are vital to the agricultural community.

Senator Salihu Mustapha, however assured WOFAN that stakeholders would work diligently to ensure the bill’s passage through the necessary legislative processes for effective revitalisation of the Agricultural sector which is currently in a state of disrepair.

Presenting the Draft Bill, country Director Women Farmers Advancement Network Dr Salamatu Garba, said the Draft Bill was part of WOFAN’S contribution to ensure Nigeria joins the rest of the world in modern farming techniques for rapid economic development of the nation.

Dr Salamatu Garba, further thanked Senator Salihu Mustapha, for his warm reception and appealed to members of the two chambers of the National Assembly to support the move towards successful passage of the Bill in the interest of development.
