Jigawa State Governor Mallam Umar Namadi has unveiled the 2024–2030 Agriculture Policy Document, aiming to transform the state’s agricultural sector and enhance food security.

In a statement, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Alhaji Hamisu Mohammed Gumel, said the grand ceremony at the Council Chambers of the Government House in Dutse was attended by top state officials and a delegation from the Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office (FCDO) and Procom+.

Governor Namadi emphasized that the new policy, part of the administration’s 12-point agenda, serves as a strategic roadmap to turn Jigawa into a hub of innovation, productivity, and shared prosperity.

He highlighted the critical need for expanded irrigation infrastructure and the introduction of mechanization to achieve this transformation.

We felt there was a need to develop the agriculture policy in order to reflect the thinking we have about turning around the agricultural sector,” Governor Namadi explained.

He also extended his gratitude to the FCDO for their ongoing support in various developmental areas in Jigawa State.

Speaking at the event, the Technical Adviser to the Governor on Agriculture, Dr. Saifullahi Umar, provided further insights into the policy review process.

He said the review aligns with the administration’s goals for agricultural development, aiming to create jobs and employment for the state’s predominantly young population.

Dr. Umar stressed Jigawa’s potential, with its agrarian economy and a population of nearly 8 million, including over 3 million youths.

He noted that the state government envisions agriculture as a key driver for economic transformation, internal revenue generation, and social development.

The ultimate goal is to position Jigawa as a hub for agro-industrial activities in Nigeria and West Africa,” Dr. Umar added.

Also the FCDO Regional Director, Mr. Abubakar Tijjani commended the new policy, stating that it aligns with the commitments of both international partners and the federal government.

He reaffirmed the FCDO’s dedication to supporting the state government in developing an effective agricultural policy and investment strategy.
