The United Nations Population Fund UNFPA has donated Personal Protective Equipment PPEs and other life saving commodities to 32 primary healthcare centers and 10 secondary and tertiary facilities across Borno state.

At a ceremony in Maiduguri, UNFPA Head of Maiduguri sub office Mr Christian Macauley said the items was to strengthen and protect frontline health workers from being infected by coronavirus.

He assured of UNFPA continued support to ensure no disruption of sexual and reproductive health services during the second wave of the pandemic.

Mr Macauley noted that the commodities will go along way in scaling up GBV in emergency services to vulnerable people in hard to reach areas.

“During this period of covid-19, UNFPA had been able to provide equipment like mini ambulances to ensure that women and girls affected by the pandemic and Boko Haram crisis continue to access uninterrupted services in remote areas where access is very limited”.

Director Medical Services Borno state Ministry of Health, Dr Buba Mshelia explained the medical support will go a long way in relieving some of the challenges the health facilities are facing.

He assured of judicious distribution of the commodities to identified health centres in the state.

Items presented include 3646 pieces of safety googles, 3000 long surgical glooves, 6000 short examinations gloves and 6000 pieces of surgical facemask.
