Civil society organizations associated with the Edo Civil Society Organizations have protested the recent increase in petrol prices as a result of Fuel subsidy removal by the federal Government.
Carrying placards with various slogans, the Edo civil society groups also rejected the Federal Government’s planned N8,000 palliative.
They marched through major streets, condemning the rise and excessive costs of governance in Nigeria.
They claimed that the new National Assembly members share billions of Naira in order to improve their working conditions, while the downtrodden suffer as a result of the new fuel regime.
One of the demonstrators Olu Martins, emphasized that the Federal Government should have put in place appropriate palliatives before implementing the new policies, which he claims are having a negative impact on Nigerians.
The protest comes nearly two months after President Bola Tinubu declared the end of the subsidy era.
Since the incident, the commodity’s price has risen to between N600 and N700 across the country.
The Federal Government says the move is in the best interests of the country, and called for patience.
