The zonal commander, National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, NAPTIP, Kano Zonal Command, Barrister Ibrahim Babale says, the agency has succeeded in rescuing 1,085 victims of human trafficking, from January to July, 2023.

According to him, the victims comprising of 932 irregular migration, were repatriated and handed over to NAPTIP through International Organisation for Migration, (IOM) in collaboration with National Emergency Management Agency of Nigeria, (NEMA).

He said, out of the total number rescued, 153 are victims of human trafficking who were attempted to be trafficked outside the country, saying that, some were rescued in Libya, Niger republic and other African countries.

Barrister Ibrahim Babale, however stressed that, analysis conducted by NAPTIP revealed that, 80 percent of human trafficking victims are males, while females constitute 20 percent.

The zonal commander pointed out that, the agency is saddled with the responsibilities of documentation of victims of human trafficking, counselling, rehabilitation and repatriation, in addition to securing convictions of human trafficking for various correctional terms.

Babale noted that, the agency had organized campaigns and sensitization programs, against human trafficking and child labour, in markets, schools and motorparks, during the month under review.

He maintained that, NAPTIP Kano zonal command had also inaugurated anti human trafficking vanguards in three schools, federal government college Kano, and other Schools in Jigawa and Bauchi states.

While reiterating NAPTIP’s commitment in curtailing the menace of human trafficking, he charged the public to report any suspected person or character to achieve the desired objectives.

Babale, applauded Kano state government, security agencies, civil Society organizations, religious and traditional leaders for their dedication in making it one of the most peaceful states.
