Sultan of Sokoto Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar has declared Thursday the 23rd of March 2023 as the first day of Ramadan 1444 After Hijira, Islamic calendar.

This is made known via a video on the official Twitter handle of the National Moon sighting Committee Nigeria.

The Sultan said today Wednesday being the 22nd of March, equivalent to 29th Sha’ban 1444 AH, the committee received reports from Muslim leaders and organisations in various parts of the country of the sighting of the moon which was duly authenticated and verified by the state and National Moon sighting Committee Nigeria.

“Subsequently, tomorrow, Thursday 23rd of March becomes the first day of Ramadan 1444 After Hijra, We therefore called on all Muslims to begin fasting”.

The Sultan however urged Muslims to pray for the newly elected people while urging the rich to assist the less privileged.
