Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State has appealed to Nigerians to encourage members of the armed forces through words and actions in order to spur them to do more in securing the nation.

The Governor spoke shortly after laying the wreath at the tomb of the unknown soldier at the cenotaph located at the JD Gomwalk Secretariat Jos to mark the 2023 Armed Forces Remembrance Day.

Lalong said officers and men of the security services have made tremendous sacrifices towards ensuring that there is peace and security in the country and should therefore receive commensurate respect and goodwill.

He said despite the security challenges being experienced in various parts of the country, the security personnel must not be condemned or their morale dampened.

In particular, the Governor expressed appreciation for the role that the security agencies have played in restoring peace to the State and continuing to make it difficult for criminals to make a foothold in any part of the State.

Apart from laying the wreath and releasing pigeons to symbolise peace, the Governor was joined by other top Government officials to lay wreaths.

They include Speaker House of Assembly, Chief Judge of Plateau State, GOC 3rd Armoured Division, NAF Commander, Commissioner of Police, Chairman Nigerian Legion among others.

Prayers were also offered for the repose of the souls of the departed.
