Kano State : CITAD Honours Journalists For Outstanding Investigative Reports

Three journalists Auwal Garba, Anibe Idajili and Rabiu Musa, have emerged winners of journalists for accountability competition, organized by Center for Information Technology and Development (CITAD), in Kano.

Recall that, on 25th May, 2022, CITAD organized a three day training for 20 selected journalists, proposals were submitted after an investigative reportorial training, where a panel of Judges reviewed and ten Journalists emerged as the recipients of the grant.

Speaking during the occasion, CITAD Program Officer, Malam Buhari Abba said the organization has been partnering with journalists to ensure transparency and accountability in the public sector.

He however stressed that the sub-grant is an encouragement to improve the capacity of journalists to investigate and report corrupt practices at the grassroots level through a competitive process as a way of holding public officials to account.

The program officer explained that, investigating corrupt practices both in public and private establishments by journalists will improve the quality of life, especially in the vulnerable communities that do not have the voice to fight the menace of the system.

Buhari said after selecting best six reports out of ten, CITAD uploaded the reports on social media platforms for public voting, in which after two weeks of the exercise, three journalists emerged winners.

The three winners, Auwal Garba of Sahelian times, Anibe Adijili of the Cable and Rabi’u Musa from Hotpen , received laptops, cameras, television and other gifts.

The winners, expressed gratitude to CITAD for the honour and encouraged other journalists to put more effort in their various endeavor.

Radio Nigeria reports that, the competition was organized by CITAD with support from MacArthur Foundation.
