Commuters on Wednesday have been held up for several hours causing heavy traffic buildup which extended to the Lokoja-Koton-Karfe road due to flood.

Flood since Monday took over the new bridge under construction around Kotonkarfe town in Kogi State on the Abuja-Lokoja Expressway, leaving many motorists and other road users stranded.

Radio Nigeria correspondent in Lokoja reports that he was on a bike for more than one hour from NATACO junction to Kotonkarfi and Gegu village on the Lokoja/Abaji expressway traversing through Ramat Murtala Mohammed bridge between Monday and Wednesday.

A boat ride with about 50 people charges as much as 1000 each while Motorcycle also known as Okada charges between 3000 and 7000 naira to Cross the River and the roads covered with water.

Police, Army, and FRSC officials are completely overwhelmed with thousands of articulated lorries, trailers, and tankers, as well as cars and buses traveling far distances at standstill for many hours.

Many claimed they had stayed on a spot for 72 hours.

Hawkers selling bread, soft drinks, and water are making brisk businesses with the price hiked above 200 percent.
