House of Representatives is to investigate frequent collapse at the nation’s power grid with a view to finding a lasting solution to the matter.

The resolution was contained in a motion of urgent national importance by a member from Kano State, Sani Bala, deliberated during the House plenary.

Sani Bala, described as unfortunate that the national grid has collapsed almost eight times in 2022 alone, with the country recording enormous socio-economic set back.

The lawmaker maintained that since the privatization of the power sector in 2013, statistics have indicated that the Nigeria has witnessed over a hundred national grid collapses.

In his contribution, a member from Enugu, Mr Tony Okechukwu, emphasized that the House cannot overlook the recurring power outage from the national grid in view of it’s implication to the nation’s economy.

The Speaker, Mr Femi Gbajabiamila, has directed the House committee on power to investigate the matter and report back to the House for further legislative action.
