Directors General NITT Dr Bashir Jamo and NIMASA ,Dr Bayero Farah while signing the MOU at NITT Zaria

Nigerian Maritime Administration and safety Agency, NIMASA has signed a Memorandum of Understanding MOU with the Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology, NITT, Zaria on research and training to enhance safety and security in the country.

The Director General, Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, Dr Bashir Jamo stated this shortly after the signing ceremony at NITT in Zaria.

He said the MOU would focus on research and training with a view to enhance the local content and boost the quality assurance of the institute.

The Director General said NITT and NIMASA have been together for over three decades and assured that the MOU would strengthen the relationship in terms of research, training and development.

He lamented that the activities of sea pirates had negatively impacted the sector and dented the image of the country,

Dr Bashir Jamo, however, said the attacks by sea pirates subsided by 2021 and from January 2022 to date Nigeria did not record any attack by the pirates.

He said NIMASA achieved the success through strategic collaboration with key stakeholders in the sector.

According to him, the collaboration with the NITT will further support NIMASA with research to sustain the gains and strengthen the sector.

Dr Jamo said NITT was established to develop all the transport and logistics sector, stressing that NIMASA would sustain its support to the institute towards enhancing growth and development in the transport and logistics sector.

In a remark, the Director General, Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology, zaria, Dr.Bayero Farah said the collaboration was aimed at strengthening the relationship between them so that NITT can provide more training to the staff of NIMASA.

He added that the MOU was also hinged on collaborative research between the NIMASA and NITT on critical and dynamic issues that affects the Maritime industry in Nigeria.
