The house of representatives has decided to take action to help Ike Ekweremadu, a former deputy senate president, and his wife, Beatrice, receive justice in the UK.

Speaker of the House Femi Gbajabiamila announced at plenary that he would “try” to engage with his colleague in the UK to guarantee the Ekweremadus are treated fairly while urging the people to shun “media trial.”

The action comes after a motion of urgent public importance was moved by Bauchi state lawmaker Abdullahi Abdulkadir was adopted.

According to Abdulkadir, the British High Commission and the Foreign Affairs Ministry should offer the necessary support to secure the release of Senator Ekweremadu and his wife.

The House, according to the member, should interfere through the parliamentary process to free them from detention.

The deputy minority leader, Toby Okechukwu, asked that the accusations that led to their imprisonment be thoroughly investigated.

The former deputy senate president and his wife were recently detained on suspicion of transporting a person to the UK for organ harvesting.

They were remanded in custody until July 7.
