The Chief of Party Inspiring Project, Dr Adamu Isah

A Non-Governmental Organisation, Save the Children International SCI says there is an ongoing plan to have a befitting Pneumonia Strategic Control Centre in its efforts to save the lives of children under five in Jigawa state.

The Chief of Party, Inspiring project of SCI and GlaxoSmithkline GSK, Dr Adamu Isah stated this at a two day budget engagement with Civil Society Organizations CSOs and the media in Dutse, the state capital.

According to him, they want sustainability from the state government so that, the programme will continue even when the project closes its activities in Nigeria.

“We want to convince the government to increase funding to reduce the death of under-five children by the rampant cases of the childhood Pneumonia”.

Also Speaking, the Programme Manager, Mallam Abdullahi Magama said presently, SCI had installed oxygen cylinders in eight general hospitals and six other healthcare centres across the state.

He explained that the rate of child and maternal mortality was currently on the high side in the state, stressing that urgent measures from policymakers were needed to curb the menace.
