The Kano state coordinator of the National Human Rights Commission , Alhaji Shehu Abdullahi has described denial of family responsibility, as the major catalysts to child delinquency and other societal crimes.

Alhaji Shehu made the disclosure during an interaction with journalists in Kano.

According to him, children are exposed to crimes and conflicts due to failure of house hold leaders to take full responsibilities.

The state coordinator explained that, in the month of April 2022,the office received a total number of fifty- four complaints.

He maintained that, thirty cases are on denial of family responsibilities, four on domestic violence others are unlawful arrest and detention, torture and other cases under the jurisdiction of the commission.

“Out of such number,the office was able to conclude 43 of such complaints,while 9 are ongoing”

Alhaji Shehu Abdullahi attributed the rise on cases related to family issues to poverty,economic policy and global pandemics.

He reiterated the agency’s commitment in enlightening and sensitizing the general public especially on effects of abandonment of family responsibilities and issues of public importance

“When there is any negligence the family responsibilities it definitely brings a lot of discomfort in the family”

The state coordinator, charged house hold leaders to redouble their efforts and take full responsibility of their families to reduce the burden on women and children.

Alhaji Shehu called on government and relevant stakeholders to work assidiously in mapping out laws and policies that will protect the rights of children against all forms of oppression.

Radio Nigeria reports that, Kano state government had submitted a proposed child protection bill to the state house of assembly to ensure that children are protected from molestation and other criminal acts.
